Leitner-SystemStudy WorldReview All

What is energy?

the ability to do work

Can energy be picked up and examined?

No!

Why do humans rely on energy resources?

To maintain their livestyles

What is potential energy or PE?

Stored energy, or energy at rest

How is PE measures in what?

joules

Joules equals to what?

One kilogram-meter squared per second

What is the formula for PE?

PE=mgh
m=mass of object
g=9.8m/s^2
h=height of object

What is kinetic Energy?

energy in motion

What is velocity of a moving object?

refers to speed (in m/s) and direction

Who sustains the creation?

God: Hebrews 1:3; Peter 3:7

What is radiant energy?

the ability to produce other types of energy

Where do you find radiant energy?

Everywhere!

What is mechanical energy?

energy an object has because of its motion or its potential to move.

Name something that possesses mechanical energy.

Wind

What are the two forms of mechanical energy?

1. Kinetic energy caused by motion
2. Potential energy associated with relative position

What is sound energy?

energy that is produced by "vibrating matter" and then transmitted

Can sound energy travel through matter?

Yes it can travel through solids, liquids or gases

Who designed our ears?

God

What is thermal energy?

The total energy of the particles in a object related to the motion of molecules or ions in matter

Heat is what?

the transfer of thermal energy

What is chemical energy?

energy that is stored in the position of electrons in an atom.

What is the process of change called?

Photosynthesis

What is electrical energy?

Energy that is the flow of charged particles through a conductor

How is the electrical energy in your home deliverd?

Through a bundle of copper wires as thin as strands of spaghetti

What is magnetic energy?

Energy that is stored in a magnet and its surrounding fields

How does magnetic energy work?

By producing attractive and repulsive forces which cause things to move

What is an example of magnetic energy

Generators that are used to force crurrents through circuits by varying magnetic fields

What is nuclear energy?

The energy stored in the nucleus of an atom

Define momentum.

a quantity of motion

What is the equation for momentum?

Mass times velocity:
P=mv
P=momentum
m=mass
v=velocity

What is "conservation of momentum"?

it can be transferred from one object to another without a change in total momentum of the entire "system"

In the law of "conservation of energy" can you change one form of energy to another?

Yes, but it can't be created or destroyed.
