It relates because sometimes the technical skill/formal qualities with which a
work was created can be beautiful, but the subject matter is not.

What is form?

Form is the way a piece looks - i.e. all
things visual (size, shape(s), materials, color(s),
composition. We notice this immediately,
whether we realize it or not.

Content

is what the work is about. In abstract
works, it is the objects or events depicted.

How are they related?

Form and content go hand in hand, as with their
intimate relationship, we begin to interpret and
find meaning.

Iconography

means simply, describing
images, and is an important activity of
scholars who study art. Their works
help us to understand meanings we
may not be able to see for ourselves

What is context

Context is related to culture, tradition, history, society, etc.
(“Art does not happen in a vacuum.
